Online learning requirements

The new Michigan Merit Curriculum online requirements are too vague and may not really assess a student's actual skills in using online skills.
It sounds to me like the usual politicians telling schools what and how to teach without actually funding the mandates. Without funding, we have computers sitting in classrooms not being used because of some glitch and no technical help. Obsolete hardware that cannot be upgraded, lack of professional development, and lack of handicapped accessible software are other problems not addressed by lack of funding. Too often I see students with reading disabilities or just low reading skills, attempting to take online classes, and not being able to understand the reading content, or even if they can understand concepts, not being able to pass the tests.

The ideas behind the technology requirements are commendable, but will students actually learn currently needed skills??
